We were delighted when Sam from the King Street Tavern got in touch and invited us to play at his lovely establishment in Southsea. A favourite haunt for us quartet girls, we were sure that we could put on a fun, string quartet-filled evening for the regulars of the KST.
So, we played last night to a packed pub full of diners and drinkers. The KST team were busy in the kitchen preparing food for everyone, while we kicked off proceedings with ‘California Dreamin’ at 7pm.
We entertained with a selection of our favourite tunes: Stairway to Heaven, God Only Knows, Run, Viva La Vida, Lady Gaga, Sunny Afternoon, Elbow One Day Like This, The Killers Mr Brightside, ELO Mr Blue Sky. We also played some classics such as Bach Brandenbug Concerto 3 Mvt No 1 (special request from James), Karl Jenkins Palladio (special request from the Pring Dynasty), and Libertango by Piazolla.
We were wondering what to end our set on, when it came to 9pm and time to pack away. After a quick discussion over the top of our music stands, we decided to go out with a bang, and surprised the pub with an enthusiastic rendition of ‘Nirvana: Smells Like Teen Spirit’.
Note to self: Must try and remember I am not actually in Nirvana when I am playing that song..
Having a good play of the rock tunes has helped Ruth to make a decision on which new bow to go for, one that is Nirvana-friendly perhaps?!
Thanks to all who came along – we hope you enjoyed the evening and we’ll see you again soon! x
