On Sunday we had the pleasure of playing at the Ruby Wedding Anniversary Party of a lovely couple from Bishop’s Waltham. The Ruby Anniversary celebrates 40 years of marriage. Did you know that the historic origins of wedding anniversaries date back to the Holy Roman Empire, when husbands crowned their wives with a silver wreath on their 25th anniversary. More recently it is commercialism that has seen the rise of more anniversaries being represented by a named gift. Anyways!
We were booked for this Ruby Wedding Anniversary Party by the couple’s son. They hosted a lovely garden party with an intimate group of friends and relatives in the grounds of their beautiful home. They were lucky with the weather and so we set up under the gazebo.
Their son had tipped us off that the wife held a doctorate in Verdi, and so we thought it only fitting that we come prepared with a few Verdi pieces for her appreciation. When she heard us playing some Verdi she twigged that someone must have given us a tip off!
We enjoyed playing a mix of music new and old while the guests enjoyed good food, good wine and good company. We were also delighted to enjoy some of the wonderful buffet supplied by Vanilla Catering ourselves – tasty game pie and smoked salmon!
Thanks to the Reads for booking us on what was a lovely day!
