Why Does A String Quartet Need Shade At A Wedding?
In our FAQs we have put a note about needing some shade to play under if we’re playing outside. You may ask yourself, “Why Does A String Quartet Need Shade At A Wedding?”
We love a bit of sunshine as much as the next person, and it’s absolutely brilliant to get a lovely sunny day on your wedding day. But, we all love our instruments very much. Some of us have antique instruments, some of us have got instruments that are newer but still very carefully crafted – and the sunshine is not ideal conditions for them. Imagine putting your great grandmother’s antique cabinet out in the garden in July for 3 hours. It’s just not a great idea and it will damage them.
So, this is a little plea from us.
We are more than happy to bring our music out to you while you and your guests enjoy a glass of Pimms or Champagne in the grounds of your venue. But we must have shade provided for us. Many venues have some sort of covered area, such as a porch, or permanent structure we can sit beneath. Otherwise, a gazebo works really well.
Please have a conversation with your venue to organise our shade if you think you will have us outside. We have, on very rare occasions, had to decline performing outside if there is not suitable shade from the sun, and we don't like having to do that at all, but we must prioritise our instruments.
Thanks very much!
